Beautiful or Bizarre? Jennifer Lopez in Lanvin

Written by H on .

Jennifer Lopez in Lanvin

Well, ladies - and gents - what do you make of Jennifer Lopez in Lanvin at the UK premiere of 'The Back-up Plan'?

J. Lo certainly made a loud statement wearing this Lanvin frock. One-shouldered, wasp-waisted, and tulip-skirted, this Lanvin dress is definitely dramatic. While Lopez's accoutrements are chic - her Lanvin necklace and Jimmy Choo clutch are desirable, - I'm just not sure about that garbage bag-esque dress.

Bizarre?

I'm not sure which is more - the dress, or J. Lo's hair!

Beautiful or Bizarre? Maison Martin Margiela Strappy-Back Silk Gown

Maison Martin Margiela strappy-back gown

Artistic and avant-garde, I'm trying to decide whether I interpret this Maison Martin Margiela strappy-back silk gown to be beautiful or bizarre.

The black silk is certainly smooth and sexy, and I do like the suggestion to wear this piece over a black slip-dress, however I'm not sold on the cut-out, slashed back.

Sure it's funky, but is it chic?

When I try to think about it the only thing that comes to mind is Edward Scissorhands.

Soooo, probably not.

Beautiful or Bizarre? Alexander Wang Leather Jacket w Removable Skirt

Written by H on .

Alexander Wang

While I'm all about Alexander Wang's easy chic, this leather jacket with removable skirt seems just a little too complicated for my liking.

Alone, the brown leather jacket is downtown cool and would look fantastic worn with one of the designers relaxed tees and a pair of skinny jeans.

The canvas skirt I could do without. The uneven hem, patch-pockets and awkward waist are dowdy at best.

So when the editors at NAP dub this Alexander Wang design a "future classic", I can't agree.

Beautiful or Bizarre? Ashish Sequin Disco Shorts

Beautiful or Bizarre?

If you know me, you know that I am:

  1. All about gooold!
  2. A huge fan of silk anything for summer.
  3. In love with sequins and sparkle for evening wear.

That being said, put 1., 2., and 3. together and I'm pretty sure the equation will not necessarily equal beautiful. Take these Ashish sequin disco shorts, for example.

Toronto-raised Ashish Gupta's not exactly subtle when it comes to his designs. And while I absolutely adore his sequin statement tees and sequin mini dresses, I can't say the same for these shorty shorts. These shorts are more Austin Powers than awesomely chic.

I mean, sure the elastic waistband is comfortable, and the silk would be cool in summer heat, but really?

Beautiful or Bizarre? Alice by Temperley Blue Tiger Jumpsuit

Beautiful or Bizarre?

Seriously, Alice Temperley? Seriously?

Methinks she is.

I'm unsure of whether or not styling this blue tiger print jumpsuit is a fashion step forward, or regression to my five-year-old self be-bopping around the house to NKOTB and playing with Barbies.

I mean, really. Check it out: From the shoulder ties and fabric belt, to the tapered leg and grey-wash pattern, this Alice by Temperley jumpsuit is a throw-back to the eighties. And while cotton is comfortable, we all know that comfort doesn't always equal fashion.

Am I right, or am I right?
