Hope Hearts Fresh Prints for Spring

Fashion - Slideshow

Maybe it's my old soul or my affinity for all things seventies, but I'm absolutely loving so much of the digital print clothing and accessories that are wardrobe ready for Spring and Summer 2012. I'm constantly clothing myself in blacks and neutrals, so an injection of colour — in the form of a very wearable print or two — is precisely what my closet needs.

My favourite picks for pattern? Here are just a few of the gems I've found so far:

  • Matthew Williamson Tokyo Faze printed washed silk gown: Like Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, Matthew Williamson is a British designer who's successfully styling digital print into some of the most beautiful clothing. I'm loving this washed-silk maxi dress decorated with Tokyo's skyline. It's almost ombré effect maximizes the length of this column gown and the colour combined with the dress's shape is spot-on for this Spring and Summer. ($1450, Net-A-Porter)
  • Burberry Raffia printed wedge shoes: Also on my love list this year? What Burberry is doing with raffia. Seriously. Check out these preppy, pretty loafers set atop a super stylish printed wedge. Raffia and leather upper, a darling peep toe, with a 5 and a half inch tall printed wedge heel, these statement shoes can be paired with everything from boyfriend jeans to summer dresses. ($1195, Neiman Marcus)
  • Proenza Schouler PS1 printed canvas and leather clutch: Every girl wants a PS1, and this new Spring/Summer 2012 variation on the must-have PS1 clutch is no exception. The tropical-print canvas is bright, and looks retro against camel-coloured leather. While the bag certainly has contemporary lines, this Proenza Schouler clutch is a classic. Make it the focal point of your look by pairing it with all black, or keep things on-trend by mixing patterns and clashing your look. ($925, Net-A-Porter)

Robertson's Reads - Revolution in the Air: The Songs of Bob Dylan, 1957-1973 by Clinton Heylin

Fashion - Slideshow

March 19, 2012 marked exactly 50 years since Bob Dylan released his self-titled debut album.

To date, Bob Dylan has written more than 300 songs.

At age 70 (he turns 71 in May), Bob Dylan still tours for more than half the year at a time.

Seriously.

What a man.

In honour of this special anniversary, I highly recommend Revolution in the Air: The Songs of Bob Dylan, 1957-1973, as well as its companion, Still On the Road. Written by probably the most involved of all Dylan biographers, Clinton Heylin, Revolution in the Air sheds light on every single one of Bob Dylan's songs. It shares little known facts and figures about when certain songs were written, what the inspiration was behind lyrical renderings, and acts as an all-together complete companion for Dylan's works.

If you find yourself inspired by the writing of Bob Dylan, you'll find yourself even more deeply drawn in to his music and lyrics after reading this book. It puts a whole perspective on how Dylan wrote some of his most famous lyrics, and will give you a new appreciation for his lesser-known works.

Beautiful or Bizarre? Cobra Society Najet Leather-Trimmed Tapestry Loafers

Fashion - Slideshow

The quality is definitely there, from the leather trim to the brass toe caps, but seriously, would you wear these Cobra Society tapestry loafers?

I'm all about loafers; they're completely comfortable, they look super cute paired with cropped skinnies, and they're versatile. All that said, these Cobra Society shoes have me perplexed.

Cobra Society's signatre Kilim fabric with its multicoloured ikat-inspired design brings to mind similar-styled knapsacks circa 1992. And regardless of whether or not the fabric swathing these loafers is hand-woven (for the record, it is), I am still quite confident you wouldn't catch me even styling these as slippers.

Et tu?

Persol 714 Sunglasses

Fashion - Slideshow

I'm in a long-term relationship with my classic tortoise-shell Ray-Ban classic Wayfarers, but each Spring when the weather starts to warm, I find myself perusing for my next pair of statement sunnies. Haven't found anything in a couple of years comparable to my favourite frames —

Until now.

There are two new pairs of sunglasses vying for my affection, and both pairs are beyond.

First, check out the unisex appeal and vintage styling of Persol's 714 sunglasses. Look familiar? Thought so. Steve McQueen made the 714s famous in The Thomas Crown Affair (check out some of my most favourite shots of Steve on my Pinterest). The foldable protoype of Persol's famous 649 shades, the 714 was the first collapsable pair of glasses. Amazing, right? 714 sunglasses are available in both Havana and crystal yellows, with several lens variations. Pretty sure 714s in crystal yellow would wear wonderfully with my complexion and blonde locks. Just sayin.

Next, I'm absolutely loooving Persol's Suprema sunglasses. They've certainly got a 50s vibe, and almost remind me of Miu Miu's cat-eye sunglasses from 2011. Divine! Love the shape, the detail, and the faded lens. While they're not as iconic as 714s, I'm confident that I'd keep a pair of Suprema's for a lifetime (or at least long-term).

While both pairs of sunglasses are polar opposites on the style spectrum, I'd happily wear both pairs. Persol has a reputation for producing sunglasses with staying power, and these two pairs of sunglasses are no exception.

Hope Hearts: Elie Saab Fall 2012 RTW Collection

Fashion - Slideshow

Elie Saab's Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection at Paris Fashion Week was called Urban Elegance. While some considered the collection to be lackluster, I found Saab's Fall 2012 showing to be entirely inspiring. While consistency may not be cool to some, that's the exact element that drew me to the collection. From tailored sheaths and slim-leg pants, to sparkling floor-length gowns with thigh-high slits and flowing high-waisted pants, Elie Saab's Fall 2012 Ready-to-Wear collection is an ideal balance of brains and beauty. It contained pieces practical for almost any office setting, and dresses that would be worthy of awards show wear.

Saab's colour scheme was perfection for my palate, filled with rich emerald greens, earthy dove greys, and classic black and ivory.

Beyond the clothing construction and design, Saab was spot-on when it came to beauty. While I understand that runway makeup is quite often in place to make an artistic statement, I love that Saab kept things realistic with minimalist colour and matte lips. And the hair? Don't even get me started on the uniform long hair and bangs.

Love.
