Home Style: Hope's Bedroom Makeover

Home Style - Style at Home

Since so many of you have expressed a sincere interest in the 'Home Style' section of my website, I'm happy to announce a new project. Yes, dear readers, I'm beginning a massive makeover, —

Of my bedroom.

Inspired by the neutral design sensibilities of Barbara Barry and Brian Gluckstein, I'm working towards a luxe, relaxing retreat where I can unwind and feel rejuvenated. If I had to describe my interior design style, I'd say it's old Hollywood glam. I love an off-white colour scheme paired with mirrored furniture, comfortable and chic linens, and of course a punch of colour in the form of an accent pillow or floral display.

The headboard will definitely be the feature of this bedroom, although I'm still undecided whether the colour will be parchment or khaki. What are your thoughts? The parchment is pictured here in this collage, and the khaki is available to view on the Home Depot website.

Another thing I'm undecided on is whether or not I'll have small table lamps, or go with these gorgeous Abbott wall sconces at Neiman Marcus. Again, your feedback is appreciated.

The mirrored chest you're seeing is available at Horchow, and measures a bedside perfect 22 inches wide x 16 inches deep x 29 inches tall, and two of them will balance out on both sides of the bed. I love the idea of an antiqued chandeiler — though nothing too intrusive or large — to hang from the roof in the middle of my room. Chandeliers provide so much more interest than a standard ceiling lamp.

The accents in my room will come in the form of treasured photographs framed in silver, and also one piece of art: An original costume design, matted and framed, from Stratford Festival's 1995 production of The Merry Wives of Windsor.

I hope you'll check back often to see the progress of the room. I'll be posting pics as I go along, and look forward to hearing from you as I embark on this interior design project!
