LFW - Blue for You - Julien Macdonald, Kinder Aggugini, Matthew Williamson SS 2011 RTW

Fashion - Women > Trend-Spotting

London Fashion Week is officially in full swing, and so far we've spotted several different trends. From billowy parachute dresses to conservative khaki ensembles, it seems as though every designer is showcasing a wide variety of looks. And let's be honest: Don't we love having a range of clothing from which to satisfy our sartorial senses?

Most eye-catching to me thus far have been the rich citron hues and bright, blueberry blues seen in several of the RTW collections. Matthew Williamson's Spring 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection (top L) had a raw yet refined finish to it. He said the theme was based on a 'girl marooned on a deserted island,' according to Style.com. The proof was in his delivery of billowing fabrics and relaxed yet tailored shapes. Featuring lots of knotting in fabrics and swinging fringe, as well as some beautiful beading details, there are some great styles here.

Whilst Williamson's SS 2011 RTW collection is certainly chic, Julien Macdonald (C) used the SS 2011 runway to display a surprisingly sensual collection. His boudoir-friendly designs were highlighted with striping and florals, and some subtle sheer lacy details. I love how Macdonald paired the soft looks with seriously heavy hair. Really, Julian Macdonald's SS 2011 collection leaves little to the imagination, and perhaps will be one of those designers whose collections will enable us to pick and choose a few wearable pieces.

Another adventure-inspired collection came to us in the form of Kinder Aggugini (R). Featuring tribal tailoring and draped fabrics, Kinder Aggugini's SS 2011 Ready-to-Wear collection had a theme based loosely on Africa. According to Style.com, after the designer discovered one of Mungo Park's books, he felt compelled to infuse some of that taste into his collection. Clearly, Aggugini's talent for mixing colour and graphics with classic tailoring is first-rate, as there are so many wearable pieces from his safari-styled show.
