Marni Fall 2010 RTW at MFW

If I could only use one word to describe the Marni Fall 2010 ready-to-wear show at Milan Fashion Week, it would be eclectic.

Consuelo Castiglioni's creations always have that vintage-chic vibe, and this season she really seemed to pull inspiration from the seventies. Most of the pieces together would be overwhelming, but there are certainly some individual stand-outs that I'll be styling this fall.

My top 5 list of trends from the Marni Fall 2010 runway show:

1. Bold colours. Check the pops of turquoise, ochre, and red. Whether we're talking skirts, shorts, or shirts, these colours work best when paired with a neutral. The best part? You don't have spend oodles to jump on this trend. Pick up a couple of sweaters in your bold colours of choice.

2. Patterns. Castiglioni's psychedelic prints, - subtle in colour, - remind me of Pucci. They certainly spice up her short suits and otherwise basic dresses. Patterns definitely date your clothing, so exercise caution when it comes to purchasing these pieces for your Fall 2010 wardrobe. A little goes a long way.

3. Bermuda shorts. A surprise, yes, but definitely a wearable trend for fall (especially considering temperatures don't drop drastically until October). For work, short suits make a chic statement; for play, just lose the jacket. On the runway, Castiglioni accessorized bermudas with knee high socks and statement shoes.

4. Knee high socks. I mentioned that socks were making a comeback, and I was completely serious. You WILL be styling socks this fall, whether you stay conservative and opt to wear yours under pants, or you get creative and pair your knee highs with bermuda shorts and mini skirts (like the models in Marni's Fall 2010 show). Knee high socks are not for faint of heart, but trust me, styled right they are nothing short of adorable.

5. Platform shoes and boots. No surprise here. Though the boots aren't exactly as exciting as they were this time two years ago, I'm still loving the Marni take on footwear for fall. She kept colours neutral with quiet brown peep-toe and perforated nude leather boots. While there were some sweet booties in peach and red, Castiglioni let the clothes - and socks - do most of the talking.
