He was one of the youngest designers ever to be named 'British Designer of the Year' - an accolade he earned four times. Controversial and dramatic, he was dubbed l'enfant terrible. His appetite for the avant-garde made everyone - even his biggest critics - itch with anticipation for his dark and delightful displays on the runway.
Alexander McQueen was truly a design genius - specifically I'm reminded of his crazy human chess game in Spring 2005, and his underwater 'Atlantis' show in October 2009 (inspired by his love of scuba diving). McQueen was and will continue to be an inspiration - even people not interested in fashion use his clothing creations as a catalyst for their own art. And so it should be.
RIP Alexander McQueen. You will surely be missed.
