Ask HOPE ROBERTSON | The Return of the Jean Jacket
I think jean jackets are coming back! What are your choices for a moderate budget?
Crystal
Like every quality piece of outerwear, a denim jacket can cost you. While I’m not totally sold on the classic denim jacket coming back into trend, I do think denim is a versatile alternative to a khaki blazer.
If your definition of ‘moderate budget’ means more than 100 dollars, I’d purchase this Mariella trench coat at Guess by Marciano. The jeans-authority since the early 90s, Guess makes a great jacket. I love their Mariella trench for its glamorous silhouette, enhanced by a pleated, puffed — almost Victorian — collar. Featuring a double-breasted placket and white piping accents, this trench coat retails for about $160 USD and would look hot paired with almost anything.
Certainly more affordable — and not lacking any style — is this cropped jacket at Victoria’s Secret, available for $99 USD. Check out the jacket’s elegant crewneck collar, flattering flap pockets, and triple-button front. Its classic shape means you could style it for work or play, day or night.
Your best bargain — and genuine denim design — is GAP’s denim swing jacket. Almost a throw-back to the 90s — I said almost, – this jean jacket has an A-line silhouette; a refreshing update on a typically boxy style. Retailing for $59.50 USD, GAP’s denim swing jacket features a five-button front, patch chest pockets and three back pleats.
If you’re still looking for something different, and your moderate budget allows, check out Marc by Marc Jacobs’s denim frock at ShopBop; if you want some seriously cheap denim, head over to Old Navy.

Not a big fan of the GAP 90’s-esque jacket, but I do love the one from Vickie’s! You should check out the Jessica Alba Marie Claire for some other haute denim looks.
