Ask HOPE ROBERTSON | Charcoal-Coloured Coat

Hope,

I’m in the market to purchase a new winter coat, but I don’t want to buy black. Is charcoal a good color, or would I be better going with brown?

Robert

While you can’t go wrong with a black or brown peacoat, purchasing a coat in a charcoal shade is probably a more versatile option. You can pair charcoal with any colour – black, brown, blue, or even green — and it’s a colour that you can dress up or down, depending on occasion.

While their cashmere coats are only available in black and navy, they do have a great wool university coat that comes in charcoal. Fully lined with a five-button closure, this classic features some super updates, like angled pockets and button-fastening cuffs.kennethcolepeacoat011808.jpg

Not your thing? This Kenneth Cole Reaction coat retails for less than half the price of the J.Crew selection. A double-breasted peacoat, you can pair it with any of your separates for a completely classy look. It features eight buttons, side pockets, and is fully lined.

  1. Great recommendations Hope! There is nothing like a man in a well fitted peacoat. Well, haha, maybe a well fitted white shirt in the summer.

  2. I think Navy looks fab on men (and matchs any colour suit)

  3. I so agree for women as well - I have a gray military-inspired coat, and I find it to be much more versatile and stylish than black.
